Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive

It’s hard to believe that anyone would be thinking about school starting already!  But your Serve Ministry team is already hard at work on our annual backpack and school supply drive.  This year we’ll be helping 325 students in our area start off the school year equipped with the necessary supplies.  That’s up from the 300 we helped last year.
Did you know that all of these backpacks go to students right in our area?  All of the Forest Hills elementary schools, as well as several West Clermont and Cincinnati Public schools – 12 in all - are thrilled to receive our help each year.  In order to provide each student with the specific supplies needed, we customize each backpack to a particular grade in a particular school, based on school supply lists obtained from each school.  There’s quite an assembly line in Fellowship Hall when we gather to fill the backpacks each year!
So….how can you help support this awesome project?  Cash donations are gladly accepted, as are donations of school supplies.  This year the supplies most needed are glue sticks, pencils, markers, and blue and black pens.  Donations can be dropped off at church either in the gathering area on Sundays or the communications center any time.  Checks, payable to MWPC with “backpacks” in the memo line, can also be mailed to the church.  If it helps to guide your giving, the cost of a typical backpack is about $20.
Thanks for your support!

Serving Lunch at First Lutheran

Pictured alongside one of First Lutheran’s new refrigerators are members and friends of Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church.  Left to Right:  Helen Hummel, Joan Sigmund, Steven Bruening, Steve Long, Theo Tucker, Jim Morrison and Scott Stewart.

Recognizing the outstanding work being done by First Lutheran Church in Over-the-Rhine to provide a community meal each month, Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church (MWPC) recently donated $5,000 to First Lutheran to purchase two commercial refrigerators.  The new refrigerators replaced units which were beyond repair and without which the community meal program would have been affected.   Mt. Washington has recently made several donations to food pantries whose mission is to provide food support to those who are food insecure and to groups providing meals to those in need.  Recognizing that demand for food support continues to rise throughout our region, MWPC has announced a goal to make hunger ministry its signature outreach ministry and plans to commit $100,000 to hunger ministry as part of its upcoming Centennial.
